Most of my large paintings are created on paper first then mounted onto canvas. I have added a page to my website with a full description ofhow I mount these paintings onto canvas, along with pictures.
* My thanks to fellow artist Barbra Edwards for taking such great photos of my paper mounting demonstration, and for allowing me to use them.
Wow… what a fabulous workshop. I had lots of fun spending the week with a great group of wonderful artists, and sharing the fun of creating on the iPad. What a creative group!
Special thanks to Mary Stewart and Vancouver Island Art Workshops. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful resource right here in our own backyard. World class workshops, and she keeps us all happy and fed too. :)
I have had a number of artists ask me if I will be offering the iPAD FOR ARTISTS WORKSHOP again and the answer is yes. Not quite sure when but I am hoping to make it happen at some point in the new year.
Please contact me if you are interested in hearing more about it once I have a better idea of dates and location.
iPad for Artists 5 Day Workshop with Lisa Danesin, AFCA October 6 - 10, 2014
A traditional painter by heart, I will share with you all my exciting iPad discoveries, including how I have used my iPad to speed up the process of creating my Silverwave watercolour series (over 50 of these paintings have sold so far!). And that’s just one of the many things I will cover.
Immerse yourself in a week long workshop combining traditional and digital methods of making art and learn what a powerful, creative, and FUN tool the iPad can be and how it can compliment your own artistic process. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or check out the details at vancouverislandartworkshops.com
As an artist, I frequently hear the words “paint for yourself, not for others”. For the most part, I have found this to be sound advice. There is nothing more thrilling for me than that moment when I step back from a finished painting and know that I’ve nailed it. It’s a high like no other.
But, there is also something deeply satisfying when I can share this moment with fellow artists, and know that they “get it”. They know that a lifetime of education, hard work (often solitary) and exploration have gone into creating that finished painting. They know, because they have been on a similar journey. And so, while I continue to paint for myself, validation from fellow artists who can look at my work with an educated, critical eye has also become an important part of my process.
Over the past few years I have discovered, within the FCA, just such a group of fellow artists. Artists whose work, and work ethic, I admire. Artists who juried me to Active status, then into Chapter shows, and into shows at Federation Gallery. Artists who encouraged me to continue, especially on those days full of self doubt when painting for myself just wasn’t quite enough. To have now been awarded signature status by these artists is both a great honour and also great motivation to continue on this solitary, but very rewarding path. To them I say, “Thank you”.
